Spicy Calamari Inkantation
It's May 2023; after being gifted a nintendo online card, i realized i had no games to use it for. "Maybe i'll brush up in smash bros so i can play more online", i say. I set a random stage and player, and buckle in for a bot match. The stage chosen? Moray Heights. The song? Calamari Inkantation. Suddenly, I knew what i had to buy.
I've had Splatoon 3 for a relatively short amount of time, but its getting me through a pretty rough patch. I'm slowly learning more about the past games, while getting "better" at the third. I'm having lot's of fun!
Splatoon is a game series developed by Nintendo, first launching in 2015. It's a third person shooter in which you take the role of an inkling (a humanoid squid) or an octoling (humanoid octopus), and fight it out with an array of weapons, like paint rollers, umbrella-guns, and pencil-snipers.
It all comes down to which team can spray their neon-colored ink around the most, turning the battlefield to a colorful warzone. You swap between your humanoid form to fight, and your squid/octo form to swim through ink.
There are three games in the series so far. the first, released May 2015, was for the wii u. The second (released july 2017) and third (released september 2022) were both released for the switch.
There are two DLCs at this moment; Octo Expansion for Splatoon 2, and the Expansion Pass/Side Order for Splatoon 3(whoch was split into two waves; side order releases early 2024).
I split my time rather evenly between Turf War and Salmon Run nowadays
My ranking in SRNW is (as of typing) EGGSECUTIVE VP! After months of practice, I've grown much better at Salmon Run, becoming comfortable on most of the stages- Enough so that I can hold my own with weapons I normally struggle with, such as chargers, splatlings, and blasters.
My Favorite map is Jammin' Salmon Junction, and my least favorite is Salmonid Smokeyard... The Grizzco Brella, Grizzco Stringer, and Grizzco Dualies all share a spot as my favorite rare weapons. I hate Flyfish and Scrappers with all my soul.
As for Turf War, I have graduated from the backline to a comfy mid-frontline spot. My current rotation of weapons are Octobrush Nouveau and Neo Sploosh-o-Matic. Both are weapons that allow me to quickly ink a path forward, and defend and/or provide openings for the rest of my team. The squid beacon is my best friend! I think I favor the Ink Storm more than Killer Wail, but I have been on a solid streak with Neo Splash that I do not intend on breaking any time soon...
I don't venture into the world of Anarchy Battles much, if at all. I tried it once, just to say I have. It was... okay. Very stressful. Maybe in a year or so, I'll come back to it, but for now Id rather die in regular unranked turf war.
Finally, TableTurf Battle. Only after finishing storymode and realizing just how many cards it granted me, i decided to test it out. It's a fun little strategy game, that (to my knowledge) is offline, so I can fail and learn without any feelings of embarassment! I've beaten the baby jelly up to level 3, but I'm grinding out to get an even 5 wins upon all three levels before proceeding any further.
